Lebanese Rice with Vermicelli
Serves 4 to 6

The savory Lebanese Rice recipe is very traditional and is prepared the same way in almost every Lebanese household.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups rice (Uncle Ben's Long Grain is preferred)
  • 1/2 cup vermicelli, broken to small pieces
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste


DIRECTIONS

  1. Wash rice, drain all water and set aside.
  2. Brown vermicelli in butter in large pan until golden brown.
  3. Add washed rice and toss with vermicelli for about one minute.
  4. Add water. Bring to a boil, then simmer covered on low for 20 minutes, or until water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  5. Serve immediately with Lebanese vegetarian or meat dishes.
